relativity

The background scene in this image is a secret little hideaway near my old home town of Davenport, California.  The boulders were photographed on the opposite side of the Pacific, on an island known as Rapa Nui, the most remote human inhabitance on Earth.  I shot pictures of the stones before I knew much about photography, but they always fascinated me.  They are sacred stones, formed into almost perfect spheres by the motion of the sea.  This collage came about by happenstance; I was sorting through images and it was like the two stuck together.  I thought about Einstein’s theory of relativity, and the concept that a whole universe could exist inside an atom floating in the air.
