about this series

I first went to Europe to surf in 1987, visiting both France and Portugal.  What a time to be in Europe as a surfer!  There were so few people in the water, and surf culture had not really caught on as it had in the States.  I roamed the coast and frequently surfed alone.  More recently, I lived in Portugal for six months (in 2008-09) and explored all of its surfing gems, especially frequenting Coxos and many of the waves around Ericeira (recently named a World Surfing Reserve).  I also made a few trips up the coast and explored the remote regions of Northern Portugal, Galicia and Asturias, Spain, and came across remarkable surf.  Europe rocks.  There is something about the North Atlantic that is absolutely magical.
